Submit feedback

HTTP/2 – Inside view (Nikolay Papazov
/SoftwareAG/)

HTTP/2 is a somewhat new protocol which allows for better performance of the network communication between the browser and server. Yes, the blockchains is cool, but does your page load fast enough?

Submit feedback

Submit feedback

Consul - operating (disasters) at scale (Валентин Черноземски)

Submit feedback

/SiteGround/)

Submit feedback

Open Source Software in the Enterprise (Христо Илиев
/SAP Labs Bulgaria/)

Your latest task is to build a software system for your company. Should you start an open source project or use an existing one? Can you do it the old-fashioned way - write your own stuff and bury it in your company’s version control system?

Submit feedback

Istio: traffic management, telemetry and security enforcing for containers (Николай Николаев
/VMware/)

Submit feedback

/LogSentinel/)

NewSQL: what, when and how (Николай Стоицев
/Uber/)

The database has always been one of the key components in every architecture. There is a great variety of tradeoffs we should consider and implementation that we can pick from. If we need consistency and correctness in exchange of availability and performance, we should pick a relational database. If we need scale and increased availability by sacrificing transactional and consistency guarantees, we should use a NoSQL database. And if we need both horizontal scalability and transactions, we need to pick a NewSQL database. During this talk we’ll explore what guarantees a NewSQL system provides. We’ll go over the different approaches in building such a system. And we’ll see some open source projects that implements each approach. At the end of the talk we’ll have a good understanding of when and how to apply a NewSQL database in our big scale applications.

/Robopartans Group/)

Unikernels - The New Black (Христо Мохамед)

The Operations world has never been more exiting! Long gone are the days of monolithic systems being responsible for multiple services and one cannot help but smile with a bit of sentiment reading books of old that gave advice along the lines "If possible, try to run a single service on a machine." From the rise of VMs some 15 years ago, to the rise in popularity of containers in the last few years, the need for performance, easily scalable and manageable solutions for the age-old problem of running our software reliably, often on a massive scale, is obvious and addressed both by academia and industry. Containers have been the new black for quite some time, but are they the future? In this talk, I am going to: * Explore the amazing and exciting world of Unikernels! Unikernels are not a new technology and have been around for quite a while, but are a technology which is gaining popularity as an application container. * Explore some "young" and "old" Unikernel projects * Talk about the growing unikernel community and just how easy it is nowadays to start experimenting with Unikernels.

Adventures in building a high-volume Time-Series Database (Richard Artoul
/Uber/, Prateek Rungta
/Uber/)

At Uber we use high cardinality monitoring to observe and detect issues with our 4,000 microservices running on Mesos and across our infrastructure systems and servers. We’ll talk about how we accomplish all this with a global view of our systems with M3, our open source metrics platform. We’ll tell the story behind the evolution of M3DB, the forces that drove the changes and how the DB evolved to support new needs. Further, we’ll talk about how M3DB can be used to scale out Prometheus deployments in a cost efficient manner as we have done with a system that’s still sane to operate with petabytes of metrics data.

DIY Linux Containers (Георги Събев
/SAP/)

wpa-sec: the largest online WPA handshake database (Alex Stanev)

Grabbing Audio and Video on a Board Farm (Krzysztof Opasiak
/Samsung R&D Institute Poland/)

Running a test lab usually has two purposes: automated tests and sharing boards among developers. For many use cases accessing a board over serial console and being able to boot a custom kernel is enough. But what if you develop multimedia drivers or apps and their QA requires grabbing audio and video output from your board? Krzysztof starts his story with a gentle introduction to MuxPi: open hardware board which allows unified remote access to (almost) any Single Board Computer. The most important features and limitations of this board are presented in this part. Next, he shows how to extend it with audio and video capture capabilities using a cheap ($30) HDMI extender and provide this stream to remote machine. Then the story goes to human input emulation and integrating whole solution into single convenient open source app. Finally there is Q&A session and hopefully some discussion.

Testing Big Changes in Big Data (Валери Цолов)

The combination of fast technology evolution and highly competitive market poses a hard challenge in terms of data generated each day. A challenge is also how to be faster and better than your competitors. The solution almost always means that your codebase should be utilizing the most modern technologies while you change your data processing modules without breaking the data consistency. During this presentation, one will learn how to do this not by complex code but by leveraging one of the cutting edge technologies - Apache Beam.
