The vult language for audio applications (Leonardo Laguna Ruiz)

Vult is a domain specific language developed with the idea of making DSP (like audio synthesis and audio effects) simple and efficient. This talk presents, with the aid of live-sound examples, the features of the language that makes it special: like the possibility of rendering real-time audio in the browser, exporting efficient code to run in Arduino-like boards, and the creation of professional hardware/software synthesisers for your music studio.

/Webbicus/)

/Uber/)

The microservice architecture approach has been very popular in the recent years. There is a big hype around it and a large swarm of open source tools to facilitate each aspect of this architecture. The purpose of this talk is to identify the main components of a microservice architecture. After that we’ll compare different open source tools that fits into each area. At the end we’ll have a good understanding what a microservice architecture based on OSS looks like.

How Open Design works at Mozilla (Elio Qoshi
/Mozilla/)

Designers in an open source community or environment are not easy; neither for the designer, neither for those working with her/him. Open Source and Free Software communities have an alternative work and collaboration culture compared to classic working environments. In this talk, we can learn though how to add transparency to our workflow, and praise "sharing is caring" more than "made by me" with lessons by Mozilla Open Design Design. We are also going to see the new Mozilla logo proposals, which have been worked on in the open, by involving the community.

The IT of another Europe (Arjen Kamphuis
/Brunel/)

12 year before Snowden the EU already knew they should not trust US tech but chose to make itself more dependent on it anyway. We need a radical change in the way we select the tech that runs our society. The Stuxnet case and the revelations by Edward Snowden have shown how fundamental the problems (and challenges to fix them) are. Most systems and platforms in common use are, by design untrustworthy in ways that cannot be fixed barring regime change in the US. While a lot more work needs to be done on detecting breaches of security sooner this does not really solve any problems, just cleans up the mess afterwards. In order to re-gain trust in systems because we can *trust* them we need to be willing to move away from proprietary systems and 'cloud' computers under the control of foreign powers. Even the most common used hardware platforms and CPU-architectures need to be up for discussion and replacement by more trustworthy alternatives. Nothing is irreplaceable and by replacing what we know we cannot trust by things we can a future of computing under control of citizens is possible.

We present a way to start up a Linux system on an Olimex OLinuXino LIME2 (or other Allwinner A10/A20) boards into a trusted state by ensuring that only trusted code is loaded and executed at boot time. This is achieved by means of a small extra hardware module, named the Trusted Boot Manager (TBM). The main goal of this TBM is to prevent permanent compromise of a system. This talk will discuss the technical details as well as threat models and scenarios, generally, but also specifically in the context of the Whitebox system - a secure and decentralised communications system provided to medical doctors.

Learn to Program in 10+ Years (Божидар Бацов)

Master of Programming.

Personal growth through open-source contributions (Haralan Dobrew
/Clippings.com/)

We all rely on open-source every day. Some of us are creating and contributing to open-source projects and are giving back to the community. I'd like to talk about why and how contributing to open-source could help us become better developers and communicators. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or an expert. Actively contributing to open-source would improve a range of your skills and present you with opportunities you haven't thought of. It would make you more recognisable to the community and more desirable to employers. Companies could also benefit immensely by open-sourcing their software and you could contribute to open-source at work.
