We are delighted to announce that our beloved festival for free software, open source, knowledge, and art – OpenFest 2025 – will be held on October 18th and 19th, 2025!
Once again, we will be together at the “John Atanasoff” Forum in Sofia Tech Park.
For over 20 years, OpenFest’s goal has been:
- to promote projects and ideas realized with the help of free and open-source software, or released under a free license;
- to be a meeting place for people to share knowledge and experience in all the diverse topics and nuances of freedom;
- to showcase and inspire the creation of free art;
- to help everyone who wants to start contributing or build a career with open source and free software.
And you are the heart of OpenFest!
Your ideas, experience, and passion make the event possible. That’s why we invite you to become an active part of the program by sharing your knowledge with the community. We are opening a call for proposals for:
- Lectures: Share your experience, project, or research.
- Workshops: Pass on practical skills to participants.
- Booths: Present your community, project, or company.
What topics are we looking for?
While our focus is traditionally on free software and open-source technologies, OpenFest has always been a meeting place for diverse ideas in the spirit of freedom. We look forward to your proposals in areas such as:
- Introductory – For any lectures for people starting their careers and activities in IT and open technologies.
- Technical – For any lectures related to free/open technologies.
- OpenArt – Art is created to provoke. Open art is even more impressive because in addition to creating it, you can free it up to be used by another artist through a free license, such as a form of Creative Commons. Show us how you understand freedom in the best way – through musical works, paintings, animations, graphics, songs, dances, and all other artistic forms that shape you as a creator.
- Community and Social – We always give a platform to people who have something to share, despite the conference’s technical focus. If you want to talk about open communities, education, and governance. To talk about free licenses or how one can make a living from their hobby. To share a successful application of open principles in the public sphere. And why not user experience and inclusion. This track is for you!
Submission deadline:
Send us your proposals by September 15, 2025.
