Most important things to know about OpenFest 2017 Fri, 03 Nov 2017 12:28:44 +0000 The start of OpenFest 2017 is getting near! Here are the most important things you need to know:

  • The entrance to the event is free, no registration required.
  • We’ll have an afterparty on 5 November.
  • You’ll get a visitor’s bracelet at the entrance. Keep it because you’ll need it to get access to the afterparty.
  • Please adhere to our code of conduct.
  • If you have any questions or need help during the event look for a volunteer (wearing a T-shirt with TEAM on the back) or tweet @openfestbg.
  • We encourage you to share your favorite OpenFest 2017 moments on social media. The conference’s official hashtag is #openfestbg.
  • You can get an official OpenFest T-shirt or socks from the reception desks.
  • For the convenience of parents we have a children’s play area on floor 0 of the building. It is open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on both days.
  • We will have coffee, as well as water from our partners Pure Water. Please reuse your water bottles to protect the environment.
  • We have provided several options for breakfast and lunch close to the event.
  • We recommend you to take a look at the most up-to-date talks and workshops schedules because we had to make some small changes in the last few days.
  • A map with instructions how to get to the “John Atanasoff” building in Sofia Tech Park by car or public transport is available here.

Nikolay Marinov, a software developer with over 14 years of experience with Linux servers, C and C++, will tell us how we can use Raspberry Pi in our cars and what extended capabilities it can bring.

Леон Анави

Leon Anavi is a software engineer and open-source enthusiast. He develops and integrates open source software projects in GNU/Linux distributions for the automobile industry and embedded Linux devices. In his free time he designs open source hardware. In his presentation Leon will explore the popular existing open source solutions for wireless software updates in embedded devices working with GNU/Linux distributions, including ones inside cars.

Petar Kirkov has 15 years of exprience in information security. Lately he has been doing IT audits, optimizing business processes and consulting organizations on how to manage their data better. This field of work has him working directly with GDPR, as well as with other requirements and standards related to legislation.

In his OpenFest talk Petar will answer the questions more and more of us have been asking: what does GDPR mean, what are the new requirements, what is expected, and are the requirements so scary? What are the most common problems and how can we make our lives simpler in the future?

How do we protect the privacy of our data and communications, and why do we need to do that? What is a CryptoParty and why must it die? Marie Gutbub will answer these questions during the OpenFest 2017 keynote.

Marie is a journalist and a former volunteer for the Tor Project. Since 2014, Marie has organized CryptoParties across Europe to spread the movement through talks and workshops. She also teaches information security for journalists at several universities and conferences.
