Ontotext at OpenFest 2019 https://www.openfest.org/2019/en/2019/10/30/ontotext-at-openfest-2019/ Wed, 30 Oct 2019 12:49:40 +0000 http://www.openfest.org/2019/?p=10967 Ontotext helps enterprises to identify meaning across diverse datasets and massive amounts of unstructured information since 2000. Ontotext offers technology and services for the development of big knowledge graphs, interlinking multiple structured datasets. Analysis of such graphs provides semantic entity profiles that enable more accurate text analysis, which in turn delivers metadata, new entities and relationships to enrich the graphs.

Ontotext’s most popular product is GraphDB(TM) – a semantic graph database engine. The Ontotext Platform extends it with text analysis, semantic tagging, search, classification and discovery capabilities.

In January 2019 Ontotext AD merged into Sirma AI JSC and became the core of Sirma Group’s Enterprise AI strategy. Sirma AI trades as Ontotext but extends its portfolio with computer vision and facial recognition technology.

Currently, the Ontotext team consists of 70 employees. 54 of them are software engineers, text analysis, machine learning and semantic technologies specialists. The company has offices in Sofia and Russe.

If you have interests in the field of semantic technologies and AI, consider looking at the company website and social media pages in Twitter and LinkedIn. There, you will find specialized articles and learning materials.

The Ontotext team will represent the company at OpenFest 2019 and will answer questions about the company, the projects that they work on and the technologies that they use.

OpenFest 2019: This Year’s Schedule Highlights https://www.openfest.org/2019/en/2019/10/28/openfest-2019-this-years-schedule-highlights/ Mon, 28 Oct 2019 13:44:55 +0000 http://www.openfest.org/2019/?p=10926 The keynote will be lead by Georgi Penkov. The long-time consultant, programmer and university presenter will talk about how new technology, while opening horizons and choices like never before, makes our daily lives fragmented and how to meet these modern challenges. Later Emanuil Tolev from Elastic will introduce us to the ways in which a business can prosper by developing open-source software, and at the end of the day, Marin Tashkov will give a lecture on a topic which is not that usual for the festival – how to be more independent of energy companies and automate system monitoring and maintenance processes.

Meanwhile, we will hear several intriguing talks in English. Michael Kreil will reveal how social media bots influence public opinion. We will learn from Steven Rostedt, who has been working on the Linux kernel for two decades, how to argue with Linus Torvalds and what challenges the project is facing now. The experienced system administrator John Hawley will talk about the interesting contradictions in modern technology and why programmers must pay more attention to hardware.

The next day will offer highly varied lectures too. In one of them, Zhivko Angelov will share how bad examples can help us become better programmers having more security in their job. The Latvian IT security expert Kirils Solovjovs will talk about the massive leaks of user passwords in the last year and what can be done in such circumstances. Later we will hear Petar Sabev, who will give a talk on the topic of burnout.

This year’s visitors will be able to join one (or more, if they are especially curious) of 14 workshops, which will be held simultaneously with the lectures. The topics are varied – from working with different hardware and software to non-technical activities like yoga and lockpicking. Besides, there will be interesting discussions such as the traditional lightning talks.

You can find the full schedule here. We expect you on 2 and 3 November in the John Atanasoff forum in Sofia Tech Park.
