OpenFest 2018 https://www.openfest.org/2018 OpenFest is the only conference of its kind in Bulgaria, dedicated to open culture, free and open-source software, the free exchange of knowledge - a festival of the open culture. It is located on the left of the reception, right after the entrance to Hall B. You can meet the projects’ representatives in person during Open Fest 2018, and below we present to you more detailed information about them.

Kiwi TCMS for the First Time at OpenFest

For the first year Kiwi TCMS is taking part at OpenFest – the biggest open-source conference in Bulgaria. Here is some more information from the Kiwi TCMS team and what you can expect from them.

We are very happy to be part of OpenFest! For us this is the perfect way to celebrate the past one year during which we were able to resolve lots of technical challenges, to visit several conferences abroad and grow our team. We are also proud to share the fact that several of our existing users and contributors will be speakers at OpenFest! Our team will be waiting for all IT enthusiasts to come and say hi, talk about software testing, bugs and open-source.

About Kiwi TCMS

Kiwi TCMS is an open-source test case management system with ambition to become the leading one in this field. This is a project that is almost 10 years old. It was created by Red Hat, under a different name, to replace TestLink and Testopia which have been popular at the time.

The original source code has been published to GitHub and subsequently abandoned. During the last couple of years Kiwi TCMS has been revitalized by a Bulgarian team and is steadily growing. In reality this is pretty much the only one open-source test case management system that is still actively developed and has a thriving community.

Kiwi TCMS is used during software testing and quality assurance to collect information about what and when has been tested, which versions of the product have been tested and in what environment. This information is helpful when making a go/no-go decision before a release, monitoring and planning the workload of the QA team and various reports.

When doing manual testing Kiwi TCMS is a life-saver with its easy to use web interface. Each engineer on the team can easily find the tasks assigned to them and all instructions necessary to execute the tests. The system currently supports working with test plans, test cases and test runs (aka test executions) & easy bug reporting in Bugzilla, GitHub and JIRA.

In automation testing scenarios TCMS systems are useful to collect test execution information and later analyze it. This is especially important when you don’t execute all of the tests all of the time! With the API interface that Kiwi TCMS provides it can be easily integrated with any test runner or arbitrary other systems.

Kiwi TCMS at OpenFest 2018

At the booth you will have to opportunity to meet the team behind Kiwi TCMS, learn more about the history of the project and try a demo version of course.
Beginner open-source contributors will learn what technical skills are required to work on Kiwi TCMS and get to know the training program which every team member must cover before sending pull requests.

Help a Paw

Help a Paw is a mobile app allowing signals for stray animals needing help to be registered. As a result, all volunteers who have installed the application and are nearby receive a notification and, if possible, respond. The purpose of the app is to provide a more reliable and quick way to inform about emergencies regarding stray animals and thus help save more lives. At the moment, Help a Paw has over 1,000 users and is actively being used by some of the major organizations protecting animals.

During Open Fest you will have the opportunity to learn more about the application, the upcoming updates and the ideas of the Help a Paw team. Also, Help a Paw actively recruits volunteers to help with the development and testing of the application – if you are interested, do not miss your chance to stop by and meet them.

Help a Paw can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.

openSUSE

The third project with a booth in the Expo Zone is openSUSE. Stop by to meet their team and to learn more about them.

Uber Engineering Sofia Supports OpenFest https://www.openfest.org/2018/en/2018/11/01/uber-engineering-sofia-supports-openfest/ https://www.openfest.org/2018/en/2018/11/01/uber-engineering-sofia-supports-openfest/#respond Thu, 01 Nov 2018 16:49:06 +0000 http://www.openfest.org/2018/?p=9974 Uber believes in enabling collaboration for everyone, everywhere through open source. That is why we are excited to share with you that Uber Engineering Sofia is a proud supporter of OpenFest.

Uber started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get a ride at the push of a button? Headquartered in San Francisco, California for 8 years only, Uber managed to grow massively to 18 000 employees, operating in over 700 cities and having accomplished 10 Billion rides earlier on this year.

And all of that success is powered by a well-established and high-quality engineering team. Interestingly, the engineering site in Bulgaria is one of Uber’s first distributed engineering sites. The team in Sofia focuses on developing systems that provide Uber services with key reporting and compliance capabilities, including generating invoices and email receipts related to trips or food deliveries, assembling periodic tax reports for their partners, and facilitating real-time tax calculation in line with local regulations.

You will have the chance to meet the team at their booth, chat about nerd stuff and get your rubber duck to ensure successful debugging when you need it. Or just a #ubercool t-shirt to show off around. More than this, you’ll be able to learn from the engineering team itself what’s on the agenda for Uber Eng Sofia, who are growing fast and expected to stay on that path for the next few years.

Open positions are available and range from Engineering Managers, through internships, Software and Sr. Software engineers. They are on the lookout for a Senior technical recruiter as well! Check the open positions out here: https://careersinfo.uber.com/sofia-engineering. But don’t miss on the chance to speak to the all-star team at their booth during the weekend.
