In the last few days the site of OpenFest is accessible over https with certificates issued by letsencrypt. Petko from our team was in their beta program and registered us for participation.
Letsencrypt is an initiative of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the goal of which is to give easy and free way for people to issue certificates for their web sites. Their idea is to have a certificate for every site on the internet, so most of the traffic would be encrypted without having weird messages shown to the users.
Their system also includes client software, which automatically renews and installs the certificates, which removes a big hurdle for most SSL deployments.
Their official launch for end users will happen before the end of 2015, we hope that they would be useful for you too 🙂
